Liverpool legend says Jurgen Klopp proven right on Timo Werner and Diogo Jota transfers

Former Liverpool star John Barnes says Jurgen Klopp was right not to make the move for Timo Werner before he joined Chelsea.

Werner was attracting interest from a number of clubs over the last year before eventually agreeing a transfer to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Liverpool boss Klopp was known to be interested in a deal for his compatriot, but Barnes says with the strength in depth at the Premier League champions, Werner would not have been guaranteed a starting place at Anfield.

Instead, Liverpool signed Diogo Jota from Wolves, with the Portuguese attacker making a strong start to life in the North West.

“Timo Werner is doing well and I’m sure he could have fit into what Liverpool wanted, but Liverpool want a player that wants to come to them,” Barnes told BonusCodeBets.co.uk.

“From the financial point of view, they would have paid the £48million that Chelsea have for Werner without a problem.
