Frank Lampard on exactly what Olivier Giroud brings to Chelsea ahead of Leeds decision

Frank Lampard has revealed exactly what Olivier Giroud brings to the Chelsea squad after his performance against Sevilla.

With Leeds United at the weekend, the Frenchman has put himself right into contention for a starring role.

The Blues have won their Champions League group with a game to spare after four goals from Giroud in a 4-0 win.

The Frenchman netted a perfect hat-trick against Sevilla, scoring with his right foot, left foot and a header.

And to round off his stellar performance, the ex-Arsenal striker scored from the penalty spot to make it four.

The result was the first time an English side has won at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium since Manchester City in 2015.

Chelsea star Olivier Giroud was on top form against Sevilla

It follows Giroud’s winning goal against Rennes in the previous European encounter as transfer rumours swirl over the 34-year-old.

And Lampard has addressed those reports while also stating what the veteran frontman brings to the table.

He told BT Sport: “Four goals at this level and the quality of the goals, individual aspects from Olivier [Giroud] and team aspects in the first half, from back to front the team were great, amazing solo performance from Olivier.

“Delighted with him, delighted with the team. This is a difficult place to come.

“There were moments in the first half where it was tough and we dealt with it.

“Olivier is reliable, full stop. Not just for us but his international goals for France.

“He’s up there with great French individuals, he’s got great statistics.

“I’m not too bothered about that in a way but I am bothered about what he gives us on the pitch.

“There couldn’t be a team-mate there that the players are happier for because of the way Olivier is around the training pitch and in the games.”
