Chelsea evening headlines as Blues dealt Declan Rice blow and Frank Lampard confirms injury news

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines on Wednesday, December 23.

Rice transfer blow

West Ham United are adamant they will not sell reported Chelsea target Declan Rice in the January transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

Rice has been targeted by the Blues since the summer window, and it has been claimed recently that Frank Lampard is set to make an official move for the Hammers star in January.

However, according to the latest report, the Irons are adamant they will not allow the former Chelsea academy player to leave east London midway through the season.

It may be another window of Lampard not being able to get his priority target, and they may have to wait until the end of the 2020/21 season to land his signature.

Blues suffer injury blow

Chelsea will be without attacker Hakim Ziyech for their Boxing Day Premier League clash with London rivals Arsenal, Lampard has confirmed.

The Blues head coach revealed that Ziyech will remain on the sidelines following the hamstring injury he suffered in his side’s win against Leeds United earlier this month.

“No, he won’t be fit for Arsenal,” Lampard revealed in his pre-match press conference. “It’s a muscle injury so we need to wait for it to recover.

“Not a long-term concern and we hope to have him back in a week or so. That’s football when players are playing every two or three days.”
