Chelsea fans fume after ’embarrassing’ defeat to Arsenal

Chelsea fans are not happy with their side’s performance against Arsenal on Boxing night.

Frank Lampard’s men put in an abject display against struggling rivals Arsenal and lost 3-1 with Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka scoring after Alexandre Lacazette tucked away the opener from the penalty spot. Tammy Abraham did manage to score a consolation goal late on, but it proved to matter little after Jorginho missed a penalty late on.

Chelsea looked to have been over their dip in form after a comprehensive win over West Ham last week, but they were brought back down again with a disappointing display from the off at the Emirates Stadium.

Prior to the game, Arsenal hadn’t won any of their last seven Premier League games and fitness issues caused the under pressure Mikel Arteta to make six changes.

But despite that and the fact the Blues were boosted by Ben Chilwell and Reece James both being passed fit, the Gunners comfortably beat their London rivals.

The result leaves Chelsea in sixth place with a number of teams above them having a game in hand, including leaders Liverpool, who can move nine points clear with a win on Sunday.

Chelsea fans have been reacting to the defeat on social media this evening and it’s clear they are not happy having expected a late Christmas gift from their side given the Gunners’ form so far this season.

Chelsea face a quick turnaround following their defeat to Arsenal, returning to action within 48 hours with a clash against Aston Villa on Monday night.

That should prove to be quite the test with Villa in fine form and now above the Blues following their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Boxing Day, despite only having 10 men for much of the game.
