Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is said to be desperate to sign Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland next summer.
The Norwegian, who was wanted by Manchester United this time last year, ended up moving from RB Salzburg to Dortmund for just £17million.
Reports suggest he has a release clause of £68m in his contract, but that will only become active from 2022 onwards.
Before that time comes, Dortmund will likely be able to demand an English transfer record fee in exchange for their wonderkid.
Chelsea, having spent £250m on transfers this year alone, will have to sell players in order to do so, and we’ve identified three they could offload.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is eager to sign Erling Haaland
Callum Hudson-Odoi has struggled for game time under Lampard this season after the influx of new attacking players and has only made five appearances in the Premier League.
Backtrack just a few months, however, and Bayern Munich were ready to pay £50m for his services.
The German giants were after him for quite a while, but Chelsea were adamant that he would be going nowhere.
Callum Hudson-Odoi could be on his way out of Chelsea before too long
If they’re to fund a move for Haaland, however, players will have to make way, and there would be little point in keeping a player with a value as high as Hudson Odoi’s if he’s unlikely to play.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is another who Chelsea are eager to part ways with. Lampard is clearly not a fan, and bought Edouard Mendy to replace him last summer.
It would be hard to recoup the £72m they paid for him, but they will again try to get rid come January.
N’Golo Kante, surprisingly, might not be needed by the club after January.
The Frenchman, who is a key part of Lampard’s plans, could well be replaced by Declan Rice either in January or next summer.
