Chelsea’s start to the season has not been what Frank Lampard envisaged after spending more than £200 million in the summer.

The Blues are in seventh place after their first 15 games, suffering a surprise defeat to out-of-form rivals Arsenal on Boxing Day to make it three defeats from four games.

And that is not where Lampard wanted to be having spent more than £200million and having dominated transfer talk during the summer window.

One way to correct the Blues’ form might be to spend even more in the winter window, but it seems that won’t be the case with Chelsea not willing to splash the cash again this winter.

Chelsea trail in Caicedo race

Chelsea could come up short in their efforts to land Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are interested in signing the Independiente del Valle star, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United are leading the race.

He tweeted: “Still the same situation about Moises Caicedo. Man United are in contact with his agents and ‘control’ the situation – the player would love to join #mufc and his contract won’t be a problem.

“Now it’s up to the club. It’s not a done deal (yet?).”

Tomori wants exit

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori is said to have changed his mind on leaving Chelsea.

The centre-back was offered the chance to leave in the summer with West Ham reportedly making an effort to sign him, but Tomori decided to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

But that decision has not worked out for the former Derby County loanee who has been forced to watch from the sidelines with Frank Lampard preferring to go with Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva.
