Chelsea’s season has been going from bad to worse and former Blues striker Tony Cascarino does not think the board will be keen on supporting Frank Lampard again in the transfer market after splashing more than £200m on new signing last summer.

Thiago Silva

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has settled into life at Stamford Bridge but the Fluminense manager Marcão has spoken on a video released this week on YouTube channel Pilhado about Silva’s future.

Marcão said : “I’m sure that we’ll have the captain here with us. We’ll do everything to bring the captain. He wants it a lot.”

Frank Lampard will not want to lose his experienced defender and there is no suggestion that this move is likely to happen in the immediate future. It does, however, suggest a long term solution to the centre-back position will be needed sooner rather than later.

Is Upamecano the solution?

Once such answer to the centre-back issue could come in the form of French defender Dayot Upamecano.

As football.london reported on Wednesday Chelsea would be able to offer the French international his favourite number were he to sign, but interest in the RB Leipzig man is high

The Guardian. have reported that Upamecano is on the watchlist of a number of top European clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich, as well as Chelsea.
