Thomas Tuchel is close to being installed as Chelsea’s new head coach following the sacking of Frank Lampard on Monday morning.
Despite leading his side to a 3-1 victory over Championship side Luton Town in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon, it was not enough to save Lampard from being the latest victim of Roman Abramovich’s managerial axe, with the club having lost five of its last eight Premier League matches.
Lampard has left Chelsea with the club sat ninth in the table, four points shy of the top-four, with half of the season remaining.
Unlike other clubs, the Blues are keen to get Lampard’s position filled immediately, with former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain chief Tuchel poised to be announced as their new boss as soon as possible.

The 47-year-old German, who has been linked with jobs in England in the past, has only been out-of-work for a matter of weeks after being sacked by PSG last month.
Baring any last gasp snags in discussions, Tuchel could be appointed in time for the Blues’ must-win clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.
Tuchel will take over the reins at Stamford Bridge with a huge weight of expectation on his shoulders, with Abramovich having invested more than £220million in the squad last summer on an array of new additions.
But if the German is to get the best out of his players, he is going to have to try and adopt a style of play that suits them, as well as one that proves entertaining for the supporters.
