How the Chelsea dressing room reacted following Frank Lampard’s sacking

Frank Lampard’s time as Chelsea head coach came to an end on Monday, less than two years after succeeding Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

Following a run of five Premier League defeats in their last eight matches, Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, felt he was left with no choice but to relieve Lampard of his duties, despite the former England international guiding his side to a 3-1 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup on Sunday lunchtime.

Ultimately, Abramovich has made the decision to sack Lampard following the Blues’ drop off in form in recent weeks, which has seen them slide down from the top of the table to ninth, with them having recorded just two wins in their last eight league outings.

Although the dust has barely had time to settle on Lampard’s exit from the west London club, Chelsea have wasted little time in sourcing his replacement, with former Borussia Dortmund and Paris-Saint Germain chief Thomas Tuchel poised to become the club’s new head coach.

football.london understands that the German has agreed to take over the role and the Blues are now hopeful that he can avoid having to quarantine upon his arrival in England ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge in midweek.

Although Chelsea’s form had significantly faltered in the latter stages of Lampard’s tenure, the positives of his overall time in charge certainly outweighed the negatives, as he guided the club to a top-four finish last season and the FA Cup final, all while being unable to add any new players to his squad because of a transfer embargo.
