Roman Abramovich has already decided the next Chelsea manager.
Not for the first time since taking over the club all the way back in 2003, the Russian billionaire is about to oversee yet another managerial appointment after taking the decision to sack Frank Lampard.
But who will replace the Chelsea legend as head coach?
Well, as reported by football.london, Thomas Tuchel is set to be named new Chelsea head coach in the next 24 hours after talks with the club’s board over the weekend.
However, it would appear that Tuchel hasn’t always been Abramovich’s first-choice.
In October, reports in Italy claimed that the Chelsea owner was interested in hiring Max Allegri if he decided to dispense with Lampard.
The former Juventus boss is a free agent after leaving the Old Lady in the summer of 2019 and Quotidano Sportivo reported that the Italian was being lined up as a potential replacement for Lampard.
Of course, with Tuchel now set to be appointed, it’s clear that Abramovich has had a change of heart – assuming the reports are true.
At the time of the Allegri links, the German was still at Paris Saint-Germain, so perhaps his departure from the French capital alerted the Blues owner.
As a result, Allegri’s dream to manage in England looks set to remain just that for the time being.
