Thomas Tuchel is in charge for tonight’s game with Wolves, just 48 hours after the sacking of Frank Lampard, and we’ve got no time to dwell on how sad we are about Super Franks’s departure – we’ve got a whole new manager to discuss.
Tuchel’s first team is full of surprises, and most notable is the exclusion of Mason Mount from the team. We can only assume he’s being rested. Billy Gilmour is also not in the squad – something which does seem to hint at an upcoming loan.
There’s also Callum Hudson-Odoi playing at wing back on the right, and a few other smaller surprises. Kai Havertz is expected to do big things under Tuchel, and as one Blues fan said, “Havertz is scoring” tonight. Let’s hope so.
Nobody is going to get too upset about the changes made for a one off game, but some of these calls will be controversial if they continue long term.

Werner not in the #CFC XI after all. Giroud is leading the line instead. They are playing with a back three, Hudson-Odoi as right wing back. Mount on the bench. #CHEWOL https://t.co/mRpQbWwj1l

I don’t think Mount being dropped is a ‘story’ at this point. He’s been our best player by a distance this season, but no player needs to play every game.

If Mount were to be selected, either Havertz or Ziyech would likely be dropped as he is better as a 10 in this system. #CFC #CHEWOL

Thoughts on Billy Gilmour being left out of the squad?🤔

It’s not a mistake. CHO is right-wing back and Azpi will have an important tactical role behind him. Expect creative line ups often from now on.
