Six things learned from Thomas Tuchel’s official Chelsea unveiling as new manager

Thomas Tuchel’s time at Chelsea manager has officially begun.

The former Borussia Dortmund and PSG boss was chosen to take over from club legend Frank Lampard after the former England midfielder was dismissed on Monday.

Tuchel’s first game in charge ended in a goalless draw against Wolves on Wednesday amid plenty of debate among fans before his first official press conference the following afternoon.

Daily Star Sport have now taken a look at six things that were learned as he sat down with the media before Sunday’s clash against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Tuchel has stated that he picked Chelsea because they are one of the biggest clubs in world football, and they are in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

He said: “Why not. It was the opportunity with one of the biggest clubs in the world in the most competitive leagues in the world.

“We felt like we should absolutely not miss the chance to join the Chelsea family. It was a pretty easy choice.”

Tuchel has also given his thoughts on the work Lampard did during his 18 months as boss at Stamford Bridge, noting fan reaction to his departure.

He said: “The fans are so close and behind the team, it makes a big difference. I know it was a big disappointment for the fanbase that Frank was sacked and I said before, I have the biggest respect.

“I was a huge fan of Frank as a player. The club made clear to me this is not my fault, I cannot change the situation for him. The decision was made and I was handed the opportunity.”
