Thomas Tuchel told to discover best Chelsea XI or face sack ‘within six months’

Thomas Tuchel must discover his best Chelsea XI in “six months” or he will be “out of a job”, says former Blues player Glen Johnson.

The German, who only took over from Frank Lampard on Tuesday, saw his side draw 0-0 against Wolves for his first match on the sidelines.

He made a lot of changes for the Stamford Bridge fixture, something that happened too regularly under his predecessor.

And Johnson, who spent four seasons at Chelsea and helped them win their first Premier League title in 2005, believes Tuchel will not have long to settle on his best starting XI.

Speaking on behalf of CheltenhamGuides.com , the 36-year-old said: “His biggest challenge will be finding his best 11.

“There’s a lot of new faces that have come in recently and it’s going to take time for him to get to know the players. He’ll have an idea of the players he likes.

“This was Lampard’s issue, there were so many good players that came through the door at once but only 11 can play and there are quite a few players that are similar too.”

And Johnson warned that there will be a time limit on Chelsea’s patience for Tuchel to find the winning formula in his team selection.

He added: “That Chelsea seat is the hottest seat in world football so the manager isn’t going to risk it because he could be out of a job in six months.

“He is going to pick the players that he can rely on, he won’t be put off if this is one of the young guys, but at the same time, I’d be surprised if he goes to one of the young guys as someone he can trust early on.

“I hope this doesn’t hinder their development.
