Dayot Upamecano to get dream Chelsea shirt number if he seals transfer but on one condition

Thomas Tuchel has reportedly already decided on his first three Chelsea signings for the summer transfer window.

One of which is highly-rated RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The France international has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, along with other Premier League clubs, frequently in the past, meaning he is a very strong candidate to be Thiago Silva’s long-term successor.

According to a report in the national media, Leipzig are willing to sell Upamecano, 22, in a cut-price deal this summer, allowing him to leave for £37.4million.

The Bundesliga outfit are prepared to accept that price because the release clause in his contract, which becomes active this summer, is way below his market value.

He is likely to attract no shortage of interest from across Europe, but Chelsea, given how they have spent money on players in the past 12 months, are likely to be in the running.

Should the Blues be fortunate enough to sign Upamecano, the club’s supporters would no doubt be waiting, with great excitement, to see what shirt number he would be awarded at Stamford Bridge.

With that in mind, what shirt number would the Frenchman take upon his arrival in west London?

Though Upamecano is only a few years into his senior career, he has already worn a wide variety of numbers, both at club level and on the international stage.

Since the 2017/18 campaign, Upamecano has worn shirt No.5 for Leipzig, a number which is often accustomed with a central-defender. Prior to that, he has worn four, 17 and 18 at club level, wearing 17 upon his arrival at Leipzig.
