Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has laid down the marker for the squad ahead of the crucial Premier League clash against Tottenham.
The Spaniard netted the first goal of the Thomas Tuchel era in the 2-0 victory over Burnley on Sunday, with Marcos Alonso netting the second after the break.
That result lifts Chelsea to seventh in the table and puts the Blues level on points with a Spurs side they lock horns with this week, although Jose Mourinho’s side are yet to play this weekend.
While it has been a turbulent season for Chelsea so far, which ultimately cost Frank Lampard his position, Azpilicueta has warned the club’s rivals that they are pushing to shine in the final months of the campaign.
“That’s our DNA, we always play to win. It’s true that sometimes, even this season, we didn’t have our best run but Chelsea deserves to be fighting for everything,” he told BT Sport.
“If we are not there, it is because we did not deserve to be higher in the table.
“We are far from where we want but we know that with the new manager, we have the second half of the season to play and everything to play for.
