Thomas Tuchel’s transfer mission proven right as Kai Havertz discovers his dream Chelsea role

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Sunday, January 31.

Tuchel proven right by Dortmund sensation

The January transfer window may officially close for business in England tomorrow but Chelsea are already throwing their plans forwards to the summer.

After spending more than £220million during last summer’s window, the Blues were always highly unlikely to add any new faces to the squad this month, regardless of their league position or managerial situation.

But although the summer window is still several months away, Chelsea are already putting plans in place, with both Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland being heavily linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.

Haaland is one of world football’s hottest properties and has a whole host of clubs chasing his signature, including the Blues, who are reported to have earmarked him as their top target for the summer.

Although Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel and Haaland both have connections with Dortmund, their paths have never crossed. However, Haaland did show Tuchel what he is all about during a Champions League clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Dortmund in the past. With that said, Tuchel could be very keen to work with the youngster in west London.

Under former Blues chief Frank Lampard, Havertz was frequently moved around, in terms of his position, in an attempt to get the best out of him.
