Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa could be set for a sensational transfer deadline day return to the Premier League.
That is according to a report by Sky Sports, who claim the Spaniard, who is currently without a club after being released by Atletico Madrid at the end of December, has been offered the chance to sign for an unnamed top-six Premier League club for the remainder of the season.
With time running out for clubs in England to conclude their business, a Premier League club has seen the opportunity to land the striker on a free transfer, boosting their attacking options for the remainder of the campaign.
At the time of writing, it remains unclear who the club in question is, but it will be one of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Leicester City, West Ham United or Tottenham Hotspur, with those currently making up the Premier League’s top-six.
Chelsea and Everton, though, are both locked on 33 points, the same as sixth-placed Spurs, sparking some debate from amongst Chelsea’s supporters that Thomas Tuchel may have launched a last-gasp move to bring the Spaniard back to Stamford Bridge.
However, that is highly unlikely, with the Blues having made it clear that they are happy with the shape that the squad is in and no new signings are to be expected ahead of this evening’s 11pm deadline.
