Chelsea transfer rumours: Three teams want £35m Hakimi, Upamecano battle, Diego Costa’s future

The January transfer window is over for another season.

Chelsea were very quiet throughout the month and new boss Thomas Tuchel was unable to get any deals over the line.

Juan Castillo, Danny Drinkwater, Fikayo Tomori, Baba Rahman and Jack Wakely were all loaned out as the Blues trimmed the squad.

Tuchel still has a high quality squad at his disposal as he aims to build on his two-game unbeaten start in the coming months.

Focus also turns towards the summer and what Chelsea can do in the transfer market.

The German will be keen to get one step ahead of his rivals and will no doubt look to bring in some fresh faces.

Chase for Upamecano

Chelsea and Liverpool are said to be battling it out for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano ahead of a potential summer move.

Mirror Online report Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has admitted the two clubs are looking to sign the France international at the end of the season when a €40m release clause comes into effect.

Bayern are also interested in the player due to Austrian international David Alaba departing when his contract expires in the summer.

Liverpool have also previously expressed an interest in the player.

Costa to City is a no go

Manchester City will not be signing former Chelsea striker Deigo Costa.

The Spain international is a free agent having parted company with Atletico Madrid last month.

He had been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium as cover for Sergio Aguero who has struggled this season with injury and coronavirus.
