Terry makes Mount prediction

Chelsea legend John Terry is backing Mason Mount to follow in his footsteps and one day become club captain at Stamford Bridge.

Terry made the admission during an Instagram Live as he lavished the Blues attacking-midfielder with praise.

Mount was handed the responsibility of the Chelsea captaincy in the fourth round of the FA Cup against Luton Town and Terry believes the former Derby County loanee has the credentials to make the armband a permanent fixture of his match-day attire.

“He [Mason Mount] has been the best Chelsea player this season,” Terry said. “He’s been here since the age of six, he trains very well and is showing leadership qualities.

“Future Chelsea and England captain [for sure].”

Despite some tipping Mount to fall out-of-favour at Stamford Bridge following Frank Lampard’s departure last month, the midfielder has remained a key figure within Thomas Tuchel’s plans so far, with his performance against Sheffield United on Sunday evening at Bramall Lane highlighting exactly why he should be in the team.

Tuchel addresses transfer speculation

Blues chief Tuchel has refused to comment on transfer speculation linking RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano and Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland with summer moves to Stamford Bridge.

In recent months, the Blues have been heavily linked with the duo, who have both been making tremendous strides in the Bundesliga.

Since Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge just over two weeks ago, speculation linking the pair with moves to west London this summer have soared because of the German’s connections with the Bundesliga.
