Lionel Messi has been proven right about Chelsea star after win over Liverpool

Mason Mount’s impressive performance for Chelsea against Liverpool won’t have surprised too many people.

The England international made it five Premier League goals for the season – all of which have come away from Stamford Bridge – as he kept up his fine recent form with the only goal in the 1-0 win over the Reds at Anfield.

Mount has 36 appearances to his name across all competitions this season and is already regarded as one of Thomas Tuchel’s undroppables.

In fact, former defender Ashley Cole is in agreement with John Terry and Frank Lampard about the 22-year-old becoming the next Chelsea captain – potentially next season.

“Talking about Mason Mount, what he produced today was brilliant,” Cole said on Sky Sports. “For me, he’s one of the most vocal players in this team. He presses with intensity, he mentioned they wanted to press high and regain it high.

“He’s the one who initiates the press, he starts it, and he got the goal.

“I agree with him, he has to start focusing on scoring and being more effective.

“What a player he is, he’s got the right attitude and next season, he’ll definitely be pushing for captaincy.”

Fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was also full of praise for Mount following Chelsea’s win on Merseyside, but it’s not just those in England who know all about him.
