Gary Lineker has hailed Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount as a “prodigious talent” after sending a message to his critics.
The 22-year-old has scored nine goals in 48 appearances for club and country this season, establishing himself as an important player for both Chelsea and England.
Yet Mount has still faced criticism from some fans, with former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard accused of favouritism after previously working with Mount at Derby County, before making him a regular in his Blues side.
However, Mount has continued to feature regularly in recent weeks under Thomas Tuchel, with England boss Gareth Southgate recently stating that maybe others would agree with him about the midfielder.

And now, Match of the Day host and former England striker Lineker has had his say on the debate, taking to Twitter to send a message to Mount’s critics ahead of the Three Lions’ clash with Poland.
He said: I can’t believe we’re still having the @masonmount_10 debate. Does anyone still not see his prodigious talent? I mean seriously? What a player.”
Meanwhile, Mount himself has spoken about wanting to prove people wrong, with the Chelsea midfielder outlining how mental strength is key in the face of doubts from others.
Speaking to ITV, he said: “You’re going to have to ask the question to the people who say these things. I’ve always wanted to prove people wrong.
“My Grandad was a boxer when he was younger, I feel like I’ve always had that fight in me from a young age.
“I’ve never looked away from getting into the first-team, even from a young age. No, I wouldn’t say I did (have doubts about ‘making it’). My family and people close to me sometimes did.
