Rio Ferdinand makes Liverpool claim in new prediction over Chelsea and Tottenham’s top four bid

Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea and Tottenham could miss out on top four after their defeat to West Brom.

The Blues were left stunned on Saturday when they lost their 15-game unbeaten record with a 5-2 defeat to the relegation-threatened Baggies, the first defeat of Thomas Tuchel’s reign.

That leaves Chelsea just two points ahead of Tottenham – who slipped up against Newcastle United on Sunday – and Liverpool in fifth and sixth respectively and five points behind Leicester City in third.

Liverpool moved back into the thick of the race with a 3-0 away win over Liverpool on Saturday, and BT Sport pundit Ferdinand believes the Reds might sneak into the top four, possible beating Chelsea, Tottenham or Leicester City in the race.

“I think Liverpool are going to get in there now,” he said on BT Sport.

“The result they got at the weekend, the performance and the confidence that will give that team. Fabinho back as well is a huge, huge, huge difference.

“I just think Liverpool with how they’ve been in the last two seasons they have that know-how, that nous to go and put a run of results together.

“Out of Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool and Spurs, the team who could go on a six, seven, eight-game run [of wins], I think Liverpool are that team.

“I’ve got a sneaky feeling they will. I hope not if I’m being honest.”
