Rio Ferdinand makes Liverpool claim as Chelsea take big step towards Champions League semi

Rio Ferdinand thinks it’s “game over” for Liverpool in their Champions League tie with Real Madrid.

The Reds were beaten 3-1 by Los Blancos in the first-leg of their quarter-final on Tuesday evening ahead of the return match at Anfield next week.

The winner of that game will face whoever progresses in Chelsea’s tie against Porto – with the Blues holding a big advantage going into the return leg.

Thomas Tuchel ‘s men scored two away goals without reply in Wednesday night’s clash – thanks to Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, with one foot already in the semi-final against Liverpool or Real Madrid.

Ferdinand, speaking on BT Sport’s coverage of the Blues’ win in Seville, has already dismissed Liverpool’s chances of pulling off a famous comeback at Anfield.

BT Sport presenter Gary Lineker said: “Let’s have a look at the poll from last night’s games and who people think will go through.

“As you’d expect, Real Madrid are in great shape: 74%, that’s three out of four people and almost two thirds going for Man City.”

Responding to his colleague, Ferdinand said: “I make that about right, I agree, totally. Game over for Liverpool.”

If Ferdinand is correct and Chelsea do indeed finish the job next week, then it will mean the Blues take on the 13-time Champions League winners Real Madrid in the last four of the competition.
