Real Madrid press conference live: Zinedine Zidane on Chelsea, Sergio Ramos and Champions League

Good evening and welcome along to live coverage of Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane’s pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League semi final second leg tie against Chelsea on Wednesday.

The tie is very much in the balance with the first leg having finished 1-1 in the Spanish capital though the matchup is slightly advantage to Chelsea in the tie thanks to Christian Pulisic’s away goal to open the scoring.

Karim Benzema levelled the game at one apiece and that is how it ended as Chelsea could, and arguably should, have been out of sight by half time.

Los Blancos’ task in west London in midweek is simple – they have to score. A 0-0 draw between the two sides will see the Blues go through to their first Champions League final since 2012 on away goals.

Real have been boosted by a number of returning players who missed the first leg of the tie. Ferland Mendy, Sergio Ramos and Federico Valverde have all travelled to London for the second leg.

Valverde has yet to feature since he posted a positive covid-19 test a fortnight ago, while Mendy has missed the last four matches while Ramos has missed the last month of action.

One player who started the first leg for Madrid, Raphael Varane, has not made the trip however as he suffered an adductor injury in Real’s 2-0 win over Osasuna in La Liga at the weekend.

Eden Hazard has made the trip too as he will return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since he left the club in 2019 to join Zidane’s outfit in a deal that could reach £130million.

Zidane will be joined by a player at his press conference, which gets underway at 6.15pm in London, before the Real players have a training session on the pitch at Stamford Bridge later this evening.
