Mason Mount reveals pain of FA Cup final heartbreak is spurring Chelsea towards double

Mason Mount says Chelsea can achieve greatness and become legends this season by winning a Champions League and FA Cup double.

The Blues will face Manchester City in the Champions League final in Istanbul on May 29 after beating mighty Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

But first they face Leicester at Wembley on May 15 for the chance to lift the FA Cup – 12 months after losing to Arsenal in last season’s final.

England star Mount said: “We’ve learned a lot as a group. We’re growing, getting better and better.

“And now we’re in the final of the FA Cup and the final of the Champions League.

“We managed to get into the FA Cup final last season but fell at the final hurdle.

“We want to put that right this season and focus so much on winning things and achieving greatness, which all of us boys want to do at this great club.

“We have given ourselves a great opportunity and we are going to give it everything.”

Mount was mobbed by his team-mates as he scored the killer second goal in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over 13-time winners Real.

He said: “It was a feeling of relief, not just from me but from the whole team and you could see by the celebrations how much it meant to everyone, and how close the game was still at that time.

“One goal from them, an away goal and we’re going into extra time. The one-goal lead we had didn’t really mean much in the wider scheme of the game.

“So to get that second goal and finish the game off brought a lot of relief and the celebrations said it all, really.”
