Chelsea eyeing Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi

A recent report stemming from England has linked Chelsea with Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi.

Who is Ruslan Malinovskyi?

Ruslan Malinovskyi would join current side Atalanta in the summer of 2019.

The midfielder had previously been honing his craft in Belgium with KRC Genk, before being shipped off to Italy for a fee believed to be just over £12m.

Malinovskyi had a decent debut campaign in the Serie A, notching eight goals and five assists as Atalanta secured another season of Champions league football.

And, in 2020/21, the 35-time capped Ukraine international has continued to improve.

So far, in 35 league outings this term, Malinovskyi has managed to net eight and provide 12 assists for Gli Orobici I Nerazzurri, which is a fairly decent return for an attacking midfielder.

But though Malinovskyi generally likes to play as a CAM, he can also play in a slightly deeper midfield berth and on the right-wing, something he has done on occasion this season.

Now Malionvskyi, whose current contract runs until 2023, is being linked with a Premier League outfit.

According to the Sun, Chelsea are planning a summer raid for Malinovskyi, who they say is rated at £20m.

It is added that both Serie A champions Inter Milan and PSG are also said to be interested in the midfielder.

But, do Chelsea really need to be signing an attack-minded midfielder at present?

The Blues already have a plethora of options to chose from going forward, with Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech and more already pretty capable of playing in an advanced midfield role.

And if Chelsea are looking to strengthen at central midfield, perhaps someone like Yves Bissouma would be a more suitable target?
