Chelsea supporters pay tribute to Frank Lampard during Leicester clash

The Chelsea faithful have made use of their return to Stamford Bridge this evening, by paying tribute to departed boss Frank Lampard.

Top-4 showdown

The Blues are of course currently locked in Premier League action with Leicester City.

The clash marks an absolutely crucial one in the race for top-4 football, with the visiting Foxes, ahead of kick-off, having boasted the advantage.

Brendan Rodgers’ men sat in 3rd, three points clear of their hosts this evening, and no doubt brimming with confidence after getting the better of Chelsea in the finale of the FA Cup just days ago.

Thomas Tuchel’s hosts, though, headed into proceedings eyeing much more than revenge, with a Liverpool side back on form having sat just a solitary point behind the Blues ahead of the penultimate round of fixtures.

Early in the action at Stamford Bridge, meanwhile, the scoreline remains locked at 0-0.

‘Super Frankie Lampard!’

As outlined above, though, ahead of a tense 90 minutes getting underway in west London, it was not their side’s upcoming efforts which took centre stage amongst the returning Chelsea faithful.

Instead, it was the name of former boss Frank Lampard.

Having not been afforded the opportunity to bid their iconic midfielder and now ex-boss a proper farewell upon his dismissal being confirmed back in January, supporters of the Blues made sure to do so this evening.

Passionate chants of ‘Super Frankie Lampard’ rang out around Stamford Bridge, with the tactician, who has been hotly tipped for the Crystal Palace job of late, having no doubt watched on from home, with a wide grin across his face:

#CFC fans chanting loudly: “Super Frankie Lampard.” They didn’t get a chance to say goodbye or pay respects at Stamford Bridge…
