Two key men out of action
Just days ahead of the beginning of Euro2020, the Netherlands have been dealt a dual blow as both Matthijs De Ligt and Donny Van De Beek were pictured training away from the main squad.
De Ligt hobbled out of Saturday’s training session with a groin injury, throwing his participation in Les Oranjes first group game against the Ukraine into doubt.

Key man Virgil Van Dijk had already ruled himself out of the tournament in order to focus on returning to full fitness after suffering an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in October. With wonderkid De Ligt now also a doubt, it leaves the Netherlands without another key man.
Frank de Boer will take solace from the fact that central defence is his strongest area of the squad however, with Daley Blind, Nathan Ake, Stefan de Vrij and Joel Veltman all very capable in the role.
Favouring a formation with three centre backs, all four may find themselves having a more important role to play than they initially expected if De Ligt’s injury turns out to be more severe than anticipated.
Van De Beek’s nightmare continues
It is hard not to feel sorry for Donny Van De Beek. Starved of action following a 35 million pound move from Ajax to Manchester United, he appears to have picked up an injury while on International duty.

Having made 17 appearances for the Netherlands, the 24-year-old has seemingly fallen out of favour with De Boer, not featuring in either of his nation’s pre-Euros friendly games.
