The Euro 2020 meeting between Denmark and Finland on Saturday evening has been suspended, following the collapse of Christian Eriksen.
Pray for Eriksen
The incident in question came about late in the first-half.
After a throw in landed at his feet, Danish midfielder Eriksen suddenly dropped to the Parken Stadium turf.
It quickly became obvious that the Inter Milan star had not simply slipped, as players from both sides grasped the serious nature of the situation.
In turn, medical personnel immediately rushed to Eriksen’s side, before beginning efforts to resuscitate the 29-year-old.
Amid altogether distressing scenes for those inside the stadium and watching on from home, however, Eriksen could not be seen to be moving.
His Danish teammates, as a result, built a wall around the former Tottenham man, as Kasper Schmeichel attempted to console Eriksen’s understandably devastated wife on the sideline.
As of yet, there has not been a definitive update provided on the midfielder’s wellbeing.
We at 101 are thinking of Christian Eriksen and his family at this incredibly difficult time, and hope for good news to arrive over the hours ahead.
UEFA take action
UEFA, for their part, have since acted swiftly in response to the situation, by confirming that the meeting between Denmark and Finland has been suspended.
It is not yet clear whether or not the clash will be replayed.
The UEFA EURO 2020 match in Copenhagen has been suspended due to a medical emergency.
