Wijnaldum snubbed Barca to win UCL
After months of it looking like Gini Wijnaldum would be heading to Barcelona, PSG stole a march on the Spanish club to announce the deal.
The Dutch midfielder helped Liverpool reach the top 4 after it had looked very unlikely to happen. However he still decided to leave the Reds at the end of the season with his contract expiring.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Barcelona were ‘here we go’ for the deal with a ‘verbal agreement’ in place.

However, the Dutchman would go onto sign for PSG on what was expected to be a larger salary.

Wijnaldum referenced winning the Champions League when he signed, throwing into doubt the perception of players in Barca’s capacity to do the same.
“Hopefully my help can help the team win the Champions League, that would be great,” Wijnaldum said. “But not only the Champions League, it’s also about the league and the Cup. You just want to win as much as possible for the club and the supporters.”
