An interesting story centering on a previous interaction between Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Gosens has come back to the fore in a major way this evening.

Germany 4-2 Portugal

Ronaldo and Gosens were of course back in action a short time ago, when their respective nations faced off in a Euro 2020 group stage clash.

Portugal entered the matchup with their tails up, eyeing a 2nd successive victory to open their campaign, after downing Hungary by three goals to nil earlier this week.

Hosts Germany, on the other hand, were desperate for a first 3-point haul in the competition, after being put to the sword by France in their own ‘group of death’ opener.

And, when all was said and done, get back on track is precisely what Die Mannschaft managed.

A thrilling 90 minutes, during which Jogi Low’s men thoroughly impressed, eventually saw them emerge on the right side of a 4-2 scoreline.

After Cristiano Ronaldo opened the game’s scoring early on, own goals from both Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro quickly turned the matchup on its head before the break:

This was followed by a Germany 3rd courtesy of Kai Havertz early in the 2nd-half, before Robin Gosens added some gloss to the scoreline on the hour mark:

Diogo Jota did manage to pull one back for Portugal a short time later, but the damage had long been done.

Of the host of star…
