Chelsea line up £60m alternative to Erling Haaland but face battle with Arsenal over transfer

Chelsea are considering alternatives to Erling Haaland should a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker fail.

The Blues are keen to add a central striker to their ranks this summer with long-term target Haaland a priority this transfer window.

However, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is looking at replacement options should a move for the Norwegian fail.

Metro are reporting that one potential target is Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak who is currently having an excellent Euro 2020 for Sweden.

Chelsea are not the only Premier League club sniffing around the 21-year-old with Arsenal also reported to be keen on the forward.

Real Sociedad forward Isak has been impressing with his performances at Euro 2020 and has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

However, the opportunity of Champions League football with Chelsea, as opposed to no European competition with the Gunners, would surely be too much for the 21-year-old to turn down.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel knows Isak from their time in Germany together at Borussia Dortmund, however, Isak’s transfer to the German giants was a point of consternation for Tuchel.

The manager had not been informed of Isak’s arrival to the club in January 2017 and this became a point of conflict between Tuchel and the Dortmund board. It was not however an issue with the quality of Isak with Tuchel recognising the youngster’s talent at the time.

“Alex is a very strong striker, who can play with his back toward goal and is strong in the combination,” said Tuchel in 2017. “He scores a lot of goals, so it is great to have him here.

“The signing of Isak makes perfect sense. This gives the club a long-term solution for the position of striker. Isak is a very talented player.
